Arizona College of Nursing is proud to support the National Black Nurses Association’s (NBNA) mission of ensuring equal access to professional development, promoting educational opportunities, and improving the health of Black and diverse populations. The National Black Nurses Association is the pre-eminent voice advocating for Black nurses in the healthcare community, and we share their commitment to advocate for Black nurses and support their growth both professionally and through education.
As part of its commitment to the National Black Nurses Association, Arizona College of Nursing will cover the cost of national and local dues (where applicable) for Core Nursing students interested in joining the NBNA while enrolled as students. This offer is being extended to Core Nursing students at all nursing campuses. Arizona College of Nursing will also develop an annual scholarship for pre-licensure nursing students that will be awarded at the annual NBNA conference. The criteria for this scholarship will be developed in partnership with the NBNA with the inaugural award scheduled for the summer of 2022.
Founded in 1971, the NBNA is a professional organization representing 308,000 African American registered nurses, licensed vocational/practical nurses, and nursing students in 108 chapters and 34 states. The NBNA’s mission is “to serve as the voice for Black nurses and diverse populations ensuring equal access to professional development, promoting educational opportunities and improving health.” NBNA chapters offer voluntary hours providing health education and screenings to community residents in collaboration with community-based partners, including faith-based organizations, civic, fraternal, hospitals, and schools of nursing.
