4 Tips for Graduating Healthcare Students

Graduation for healthcare students can be an exciting and stressful time as it marks the end of classes, studying, examinations, and clinical externships. When beginning your career in the medical field, there are many things to consider. Be sure to keep these four tips for graduating healthcare students in mind as you begin this new chapter in your life.

1. Decide whether you are ready to enter the workforce or if you will opt for additional schooling. Many people decide that their diploma or degree is enough and that they are ready to start a career. Others go on to continue their education. A few important things to consider when you reach this point are:
   • From a financial standpoint, can you afford more school?
   • What field do you want to go into?
   • Does it require more schooling?
2. Put together your resume. This is one of the most important things to do upon graduation as your resume provides a crucial first impression to your potential employers. After you graduate, visit Arizona College’s Career Services department to have a review your resume and provide you with helpful tips.
3. Interview. One of the best ways to brush up on your interview skills is simply to interview – take every opportunity that comes your way. Even if you don’t get the position, chalk it up to practice. Also, be sure to take advantage of the mock interviews and job placement assistance offered by our Career Services staff.
4. Paying off your student loans is one of the most important things to be mindful of after graduation. Student loan programs may allow a six-month window before the first payment is required, but as a best practice, start making payments as soon as you can.  Also, look into interest rates and the best payment plan for you.
