# Institutional Review Board (IRB)

## About the IRB

Arizona College of Nursing’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) is an
administrative body established to provide research support and oversight for
the ethical acquisition of knowledge and to protect the rights and welfare of
human research subjects. All proposed studies conducted under the auspices of
Arizona College of Nursing or involving Arizona College of Nursing students,
faculty, or other employees must be submitted to and approved by the IRB.

The IRB is responsible for the approval of all protocols involving one or more
human subjects to ensure compliance with, and fulfillment of: (1) the policies
contained in the IRB document entitled “Guidelines for Researchers” (2) the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services Office of Human Research Protections’
Institutional Review Board Guidebook (hereafter, HHS OHRP IRB Guidelines); and
(3) federal and state regulations related to research with human subjects or
studies accessing protected health information.

_There are no deadlines for submission of exempt and expedited protocol submissions. Exempt Protocols will be reviewed within 5 business days of receipt. Expedited protocols will be reviewed within 15 business days of receipt. The deadlines noted in the calendar are applicable to protocol submissions that require Full Convened Board Review. Protocol submissions after the deadline will be reviewed at the next scheduled full board meeting._
