# Who is Your Student Achievement Coach? Meet Your On-Campus Support

When taking the first step to
[enroll in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program](https://arizonacollege.edu/admissions/)
, it’s a given that you are signing up for rigorous academics. But what you
can’t always predict are the hurdles life may throw your way. A last-minute gap
in childcare, a chaotic work schedule, or an unexpected financial challenge can
threaten to derail one’s nursing education just as quickly as a tough exam can.

At Arizona College of Nursing (AZCN), we do not believe students should have to
choose between managing their personal challenges and passing classes.
[We offer resources](https://arizonacollege.edu/student-services/) that provide
support through every step of your education, including with our Student
Achievement Coaches.

Student Achievement Coaches at AZCN are more than academic advisors. They are
our students’ very own advocates on campus, helping you overcome barriers faced
both in and out of the classroom. Here is a guide to how these coaches can
support your academic journey.

## What Does a Student Achievement Coach Do?

A Student Achievement Coach helps you succeed both academically and personally
as you move through your BSN program. If you are facing a challenge outside of
the classroom that may affect your ability to succeed in school, your coach is
there to help find a solution.

According to one Student Achievement Coach at
[AZCN’s Salt Lake City campus](https://arizonacollege.edu/salt-lake-city-utah-nursing-school/)
, there are multiple areas of support these coaches can offer students.

“My job is to help locate any outside resources that students might need to
overcome any personal barriers that they might be facing…[T]hat might look
like financial assistance, childcare, any kind of help that might be coming from
outside of the school to help them succeed academically.”

Student Achievement Coaches can help:

**Find Outside Resources:** If you are facing personal struggles outside of
school, your Student Achievement Coach can help locate external community
support, including financial assistance, housing resources, or childcare.

**Handle Stress:** Student Achievement Coaches are trained to help you
de-escalate stressful situations and navigate the pressure of nursing school.

**Manage Time:** Student Achievement Coaches work in the Learning Resource
Center (LRC) and can help you learn how to manage your packed schedule of
classes, clinicals, labs, and studying. From helping to build realistic study
schedules to mastering a digital calendar, they provide creative scheduling
formats that work for your life.

The student achievement coach added, “One thing that we really like to work on
here in the LRC is different creative ways to manage your time, different
scheduling formats, whether that’s a weekly planner or maybe just learning how
to use your digital calendar. We like to make sure that everybody has a good
place to start.”

## Keeping Nursing Students on Track

You do not have to wait until you’re struggling to hear from your Student
Achievement Coach, and you certainly do not have to be the first to reach out.
Student Achievement Coaches check in regularly and help you before situations
become overwhelming.

Student Achievement Coaches monitor grades, GPAs, and attendance to help keep
you on track to graduate. These coaches can see how you’re navigating nursing
school and your experiences through General Education and Core classes.

If you need academic accommodations or tutoring, your Student Achievement Coach
will coordinate directly with our Academic Support Coordinator. They can connect
students with tutoring and other accommodations to help make their nursing
education as stress-free as possible.

## Ask for Help

At AZCN, we want to make sure you have a strong foundation to set you up for
success long into your
[career as a nurse](https://arizonacollege.edu/student-services/career-services/)
. You should never feel like you have to suffer in silence as there is always
someone on campus to help.

In addition to our Student Achievement Coaches, you have access to a full
network of support on campus:

**Faculty Support:** Meet directly with faculty members during their office
hours to go over academics, classroom guidance, on-site tutoring, or get
specific questions answered before an exam.

**NCLEX Success Specialists:** As you progress through Core, these nursing
leaders help you
[feel prepared for your licensing exam](https://arizonacollege.edu/accredited-bsn-program/nclex-exam-prep/)
and future career.

**Online Tutoring:** As an AZCN student, you have access to Tutor.com, a website
that can support success in many courses. This resource provides additional
support in subjects where you want more assistance.

**LRC’s for Tutoring:** Visit LRC’s for academic support. These on-campus
locations offer tutoring as well as group and individual study spaces.

## The Takeaway

At AZCN, we believe in a collaborative approach to our students and their
education and our campus resources, including Student Achievement Coaches, are
there to help. Whether you are currently enrolled or planning to start your BSN
soon, remember that asking for help is a strength. We are here to help you
succeed.
